Once we learn the reasons behind caste and see the often heartbreaking effects, Wilkerson says, we can bridge the divides and make way for an inclusive future where we are all equal.
Author Biography

Isabel Wilkerson, winner of the Pulitzer Prize and the National Humanities Medal, is the author of the bestseller The Warmth of Other Suns and of Caste. She has taught at Princeton, Emory, and Boston universities and has lectured at more than two hundred other colleges and universities across the United States and in Europe and Asia.

Number of Pages: 352

Dimensions: 0.8 x 8.2 x 5.5 IN

Publication Date: September 19, 2023

braiding-sweetgrass-for-young-adults-indigenous-wisdom-scientific-knowledge-and-the-teachings-of-plants-paperback
Braiding Sweetgrass for Young Adults: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants - Paperback

Report copyright infringement

by Robin Wall Kimmerer (Author), Monique Gray Smith (Author), Nicole Neidhardt (Illustrator)

Drawing from her experiences as an Indigenous scientist, botanist Robin Wall Kimmerer demonstrated how all living things--from strawberries and witch hazel to water lilies and lichen--provide us with gifts and lessons every day in her best-selling book Braiding Sweetgrass. Diversity in human sex and gender is not a modern phenomenon, as readers will discover through illustrated stories and records that introduce historical figures ranging from the controversial Roman emperor Elagabalus to the swashbuckling seventeenth-century conquistador Antonio de Erauso to veterans of the Stonewall uprising Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera. In addition to these individual profiles, the book explores some of the societal roles played by trans people beginning in ancient times and shows how European ideas about gender were spread across the globe. It explains how the science of sexology and the growing acceptance of (and backlash to) gender nonconformity have helped to shape what it means to be trans today. Illustrated conversations with modern activists, scholars, and creatives highlight the breadth of current trans experiences and give readers a deeper sense of the diversity of trans people, a group numbering in the millions. Extensive source notes provide further resources. Moving, funny, heartbreaking, and empowering, this remarkable compendium from trans creators Alex L. Both were high school students from Oakland, California, one of the most diverse cities in the country, but they inhabited different worlds. At its heart are the stories of three lives and three families: those of Rodney King; of Latasha Harlins, a Black teenager shot and killed by a Korean American storeowner; and Edward Jae Song Lee, a Korean American man killed in the unrest. Woven throughout, and set against a minute-by-minute account of the uprising, are the voices of dozens others: police officers, firefighters, journalists, business owners, and activists whose recollections give texture and perspective to the events of those five days in 1992 and their impact over the years that followed.

Number of Pages: 368

Dimensions: 0.89 x 9.29 x 6.27 IN

Illustrated: Yes

Publication Date: May 07, 2024

homebody-a-graphic-memoir-of-gender-identity-exploration-a-yalsa-excellence-in-nonfiction-finalist-paperback
Homebody: A Graphic Memoir of Gender Identity Exploration-A Yalsa Excellence in Nonfiction Finalist - Paperback

Report copyright infringement

by Theo Parish (Author), Theo Parish (Illustrator)

YALSA Excellence in Nonfiction Award Finalist

In their comics debut, Theo Parish masterfully weaves an intimate and defiantly hopeful memoir about the journey one nonbinary person takes to find a home within themself.
