About Jackalope Collective

Jackalope Collective is a curiosity-centered bookshop and gift shop. We curate books, paper goods, creative tools, playful objects, and thoughtful gifts for people who want to read deeply, make things with their hands, gather together, and stay connected to the world around them. Our hope is simple: to offer goods and resources that feel special, useful, and rooted in real life.

Why Jackalope?

To us, the jackalope represents something rare, a little magical, and full of wild possibility. It carries the spirit of courage, humor, and imagination. The jackalope invites us to remain brave, playful, and open to wonder.

Why Chispa?

Chispa means “spark” in Spanish. Chispa is the editorial and community-centered side of Jackalope Collective, a space for essays, interviews, reading lists, guides, and resources that spark reflection, connection, and meaningful change. It is also a tribute to the people who came before us, the people who made a way, shared what they knew, cared for others, asked better questions, and helped light the path forward.

Our Story

Jackalope Collective was founded by Jaclyn Avellán (she/her), whose background includes curriculum publishing and production, therapeutic settings, creative work, and a lifelong love of books, learning, and community.

Raised in a Cuban and Mexican immigrant family, Jaclyn grew up with a deep appreciation for storytelling, resourcefulness, education, family, and the many ways people care for one another across generations. Those values continue to shape Jackalope’s work: the books we choose, the resources we create, the stories we share, and the kind of community we hope to build.

Jaclyn lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico with her husband, child, and dog, and loves exploring the state, visiting the library, reading, and playing board games with her family.
